OBGYN in Kentucky delivers patient's baby while in labor herself

Amanda Hess was at Frankfort Regional Hospital over the weekend - preparing to be induced - when she overheard nurses saying that another mother needed to deliver right away because the baby was in distress, according to another doctor, Hala Sabry, on Facebook.

The doctor on-call at the Frankfort Regional Medical Center had just left, so Hess chose to step in.

"So, in her own words, she "put another gown on to cover my backside, put some splash boots on over my flip flops" and delivered that baby!"

This week, an obstetrician-gynecologist found herself jumping into action on the day she was a patient at the hospital.

Johnson called Hess's actions "pretty unbelievable".

The doctor went to the room, where a woman who happened to be one of her patients was fully dilated. "I feel very lucky she was there and the type of person she is and step up to what she did".

"I said you know, I'm not on call, I'm here in a gown, but I think we ought to have the baby", Hess said in an interview with NBC News Friday.
