Savannah volunteers with Red Cross in Texas to help hurricane victims

Dozens of local Red Cross volunteers are preparing to head to Texas to help in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. Nearly 1,000 Red Cross volunteers from around the country are on the ground, the Red Cross said Wednesday in a news release.

With the need for help after Hurricane Harvey expected to continue for months, the 35 area Red Cross volunteers are learning about mass care and helping with shelters, which is the main goal.

The now trained volunteers that came out Saturday will be put on a list to be selected for deployment in the coming weeks.
