Ronaldo ripe for Real return in Champions League says Zidane

Real Madrid attacker Gareth Bale admits he may celebrate a winning goal against former club Tottenham in the Champions League. We're playing them in the group stages.

Spurs have an even tougher set of fixtures this time around, with reigning European champions Real Madrid and Cypriot champions APOEL joining Dortmund in Group H.

Over the course of the past two seasons alone, Luka Modric has won consecutive Champions League titles with Real Madrid, and during the 2017/2018 campaign was key to the club securing a first league and European Cup double since 1958.

Since I joined, every Champions League has been different, with huge expectations and a lot of challenges on the pitch.

The greatest football competition in Europe is back.

The Argentinian, however, has successfully cemented Tottenham among the Premier League's elite and now he has Europe's super clubs in his sights.

The club which has been without a win in eight European games, drawing three and losing five had in the 2011/12 season faced Manchester United in the group stage.

"It's a very important day for me, much more important than you can imagine".

"I admire Messi - he's never complained to me in any game we played", he said.

Paris St. Germain have also acquired the services of ex-Barca man Neymar and French teenager Kylian Mbappe, attempting again to lift an elusive Champions League title. He chopped and changed his tactics throughout last year's tournament and only settled on his current formation of choice, 3-4-2-1, after Spurs' hopes of qualification were over.

No other country has five representatives in the competition, not even Spain or Germany, and it is tempting to wonder whether the Premier League really deserves such prominence when actual results in Europe have been generally disappointing in the last few seasons. Greek holders Olympiakos, and Sporting are regular qualifiers but rarely advance, with the latter weakened by their recent sale of midfielder Adrien Silva to Leicester. Furthermore, no Premier League team has reached the Final since the Blues five years ago.

Pep Guardiola's Manchester City avoided tougher options by being drawn into top-seeded Shakhtar's group. Still, Napoli were one of the more hard opponents for City. "It's a learning curve for me".

With at least five credible title contenders in the Premier League it is a tall order for anyone to succeed at home and overseas - even Pep Guardiola and his well-resourced Manchester City side ended up empty handed last season - and for a club such as Spurs, frustratingly close to a first table-topping finish in over half a century, it is easy to see how Europe can be a distraction.

Madrid's path to the knockout stage may have been smoothed by its fierce rival Barcelona, which weakened Borussia Dortmund by signing Ousmane Dembele. APOEL famously reached the quarterfinals in 2012 against the odds.
