Memphis 41, UCLA 31, third quarter

UCLA's Josh Rosen, who threw his first two interceptions of the season, had a fourth-down pass broken up with 56 seconds left to give the ball back to the Tigers (2-0), who ran out the clock.

The Wolverines (3-0) didn't lead by more than three points until Peoples-Jones' touchdown early in the third quarter. He threw two touchdowns in the second quarter on short screen passes that turned into 47- and 42-yard scores.

Pitt dropped to 1-2.

Ferguson completed 23 of 38 passes for 398 yards and six touchdowns with one interception.

The Tigers rolled up 560 yards in the win. Miller ended a penalty-plagued 75-yard drive with a 12-yard catch. The Bruins' win saw three touchdown receptions from Darren Andrews running 92 yards and a pick-six by Darney Holmes for a 28-point advantage at halftime.

For the past few years, UCLA's spotlight has been on quarterback Josh Rosen. Rosen was 5-for-5 passing for 95 yards on the lengthy drive, ending with a 22-yard scoring pass to Austin Roberts.

The Tigers defeated the number 25 team in the country UCLA by a score of 48-45. Wide receiver Anthony Miller was the main recipient as part of the high-powered aerial attack with nine catches for 185 yards and two scores. He was 34 of 56 for 463 yards and four touchdowns.

Memphis outgained the Bruins 327 to 307 in total yards in the first half.

Memphis was up a field goal in the final three minutes, and the Tigers were positioned to put the Bruins away with a touchdown. Rosen is a good quarterback, but he wasn't elite, not today.

With the game kicking off around 9 a.m. PT, UCLA appeared to be asleep early, as Memphis' first play was an 80-yard run by Darrell Henderson, leading to a quick touchdown. The second was the TD grab.

The game went just about as expected, save for which team came out on top. UCLA DL Osa Odighizuwa was ejected with 11:03 left following a targeting penalty after his helmet-to-helmet hit of QB Riley Ferguson. Scherer coaches UCLA tight ends and serves as senior associate head coach.
