Steve Bannon wanted to infiltrate Facebook before the election

In the exchange, Gacek informed Bannon, who was still the head of Breitbart and had not yet been appointed to his White House role, about a job opening for "Public Policy Manager" at the Facebook-owned WhatsApp messenger division.

"[Bannon's plot] shows the lengths to which the brawling new American right is willing to go to keep tabs on and gain leverage over the Silicon Valley giants they used to help elect Trump - but whose executives they also see as part of the globalist enemy", reported BuzzFeed's Joseph Bernstein.

Bannon forwarded the email on to Yiannopoulos, asking him to "get on this". One of the people included in the email thread said that it seemed hard for Breitbart to do it "quietly without [Facebook] becoming aware of efforts". A researcher on the email chain commented that carrying out the plan might be hard without Facebook becoming aware of the plan.

Cowboys, Cardinals lock arms for national anthem in show of unity
Owner Jerry Jones and coach Jason Garrett have both been outspoken over the respect they want their players to show for the flag. Just when you thought nothing new could happen, the Dallas Cowboys did something no team has done.

At the time the email was sent, in August 2016, Bannon was still with Breitbart, but was just about to join the Trump campaign. That charge - and the threat of regulation - has mostly come from the left. "In May 2016, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg was forced to meet with dozens of prominent conservatives after a report surfaced that the company's employees prevented right-leaning stories from reaching the platform's "trending" section", BuzzFeed notes.

This initiative mirrors the recent situation at Google in which James Damore was terminated after distributing a sexist memo criticizing the company's pro-diversity efforts and asserting that women are not suitable for high-profile jobs in the tech industry. The duties included meeting with federal government officials and members of Congress to advance the company's public policy goals, and among the requirements were a law degree and 10 years of experience in the field.
