Game of Thrones Creators to Direct Series Finale, Other Favorites to Return

If your Game of Thrones memory is accurate (and ours is), that means that they haven't directed since season 4. The directors include Miguel Sapochnik, David Nutter, and showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, who will team up to direct the series finale.

The names that will be joining them are heavy hitting fan favorites though.

We assume there are some epic battles on deck, and who better to handle those duties than Miguel Sapochnik, who directed the intense "Hardhome" and "Battle of the Bastards" (which feature some truly unbelievable shots).

Game of Thrones is the biggest show on HBO right now, and with it ending, the network has to find another series to be its masthead. There, he directed the seventh episode, The Gift, and the eighth episode, Hardhome.

"Game of Thrones" Season 8 has selected the directors that will help conclude the epic HBO fantasy series, the premium cable network announced Tuesday. Those were the infamous Battle of the Bastards and The Winds of Winter. With less cooks in the kitchen, we expect there'll be a pretty consistent overall tone to the final run of the show. The director was also awarded with an Emmy for his work.

Shooting Near Residence of Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte
The Philippine leader typically spends weekends in Davao, where he served as mayor for more than two decades. During the incident, Duterte was not at home, a spokesman for his security details said.

If not, the possibility remains for at least one more director to make their mark on Game of Thrones season 8. Nutter has been on board longer than Sapochnik, and carries with him similar acclaim. He then directed the finale of that season, Mhysa.

The show is expected to air in 2018, but there's a possibility that he fans will have to wait till 2019 to see the final season. Here he directed the final two episodes, The Dance of Dragons and Mother's Mercy.

Entering the six-episode final season of the series, the stakes have never been higher for the denizens of Westeros and even the realms beyond.

That's all the directors the show announced, meaning Sapochnik and Nutter will be directing at least two episodes each, if not three if Weiss and Benioff are focusing exclusively on the finale.
