Ryanair Takes Steps To Meet Aviation Commission Requirements

RYANAIR HAS GIVEN the details of how it will re-route or compensate the thousands of customers affected by its widespread flight cancellations, ahead of a deadline from a United Kingdom watchdog.

A Ryanair spokesman said: "We will be meeting with the CAA and will comply fully with whatever requirements they ask us to".

Ryanair has backed down and agreed to the Civil Aviation Authority's demand that it should offer to re-route passengers affected by two sets of cancellations announced earlier this month.

Following this, the British aviation regulator had rebuked the airline for providing "misleading information" after it offered the affected passengers either the choice of refunds or alternative Ryanair flights.

Ryanair shares fell sharply yesterday after the crisis-hit airline was told "action, not words" was needed.

In addition, the Dublin-based carrier must commit to helping passengers who chose an unsuitable option as a result of being misled.

The CAA has given Ryanair until 5pm on October 2 to send a draft of the message it will send to customers, and until 5pm on October 4 to contact all affected passengers.

This sudden decision by the airline has affected around 400,000 bookings.

Moon also said Seoul should aim for the "early takeover" of the wartime operational control (OPCON) from the U.S. The official said he could not comment on an issue related to military intelligence.

The CAA accused Ryanair of not complying with the law over its handling of the cancellations, which were caused by an error in the rostering of its pilots.

Analysts have said that while the cancellation troubles have worsened, the airline wasn't renowned for having a stellar reputation among customers before.

According to Ryanair's latest statement, passengers will first be offered the next available Ryanair flight on the same route.

As it did when announced the first round of cancellations, the CEO of Europe's leading low-priced airline, once again called for "heartless apologies" to affected customers.

Ryanair has pledged to send a "clarification email" to customers outlining their rights and explaining how and when they will booked onto other flights.

"We are committed to processing all such claims within 21 days of receipt and hope to have all such claims settled before the end of October".

"If anyone has had a flight cancelled - any airline, in this case Ryanair, needs to provide them with an alternative way of getting where they need to go".

The new cancellations include several popular routes used by United Kingdom passengers, such as Stansted to Edinburgh and Glasgow, Gatwick to Belfast, Newcastle to Faro, and Glasgow to Las Palmas.
