Domestic violence vigil held at Justice Park

The Bath Township Board of Trustees officially proclaimed October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month throughout the township.

Special events are planned October 3 and 11.

Domestic violence happens in the Upper Peninsula and nationwide every day. Survivors, public officials and other community members will come together to honor those who lost their lives to domestic violence and the courage of the victims who have strived to end the domestic violence in their lives.

She officially announced the campaign at the 17th annual Brides' March (also known as the Gladys Ricart and Victims of Domestic Violence Memorial Walk) in New York City on September 26. Tens of thousands of women and children find refuge in domestic violence emergency shelters and transition housing each day, but thousands more are turned away.

During the past three decades, Missouri has made significant advancements in securing rights, protections and services for victims of domestic violence.

An upcoming event and purple lights illuminating Livingston County are part of a month-long effort to raise awareness about domestic violence.
