Elon Musk's SpaceX launches its third refurbished rocket this year

SpaceX will deliver a communications satellite created to broadcast television over the U.S. and parts of the Caribbean this evening.

SpaceX completed its third launch with a previously used first stage booster October 11, carrying a geostationary satellite for customers EchoStar and SES. The booster launched Wednesday was previously used to deliver supplies to the International Space Station for NASA.

SpaceX has launched and landed its second rocket in three days, this time from the US East Coast.

Status of high stakes Spain-Catalonia standoff
About 2.3 million Catalans, or 43 per cent of the electorate in the wealthy northeastern region, voted in the referendum. It was the leader's first speech since the controversial October 1 referendum.

In just a handful of hours, a reused Falcon 9 rocket is expected to lift off from SpaceX's Florida-based LC-39A launch pad, the second launch for the company in just under 60 hours. Overall, it was the private space company's 15th rocket launch of 2017.

The pinpoint landing was the 18 successful recovery of a Falcon's first stage. Another launch helped loft the BulgariaSat-1 spacecraft on June 23. If this third launch of a "flight proven" booster proves successful, SpaceX will likely have a much easier time of finding customers for flight-proven rockets in the future.

A flawless sunset launch by Elon Musk-backed SpaceX placed a heavyweight joint-venture Airbus-built SES/EchoStar satellite into geostationary orbit on Wednesday evening. Titanium grid fins, as seen during the Iridium-2 mission earlier this year, are a feature of the Block 5 goal, but the main modification is expected to be the addition of a new sort of heat shield to cover the octaweb structure that holds the vehicle's 9 Merlin 1D rocket engines. Englewood, Colorado-based EchoStar is leasing the Ku-band payload for 10 years, branded as EchoStar-105, while SES uses the C-band payload as SES-11.
