Paul Scholes holds talks over Oldham Athletic manager's job

It would be a hard situation for a managerial debut with Oldham sitting at 19th in League One, and also considering that current caretaker manager, also an ex-United player in Richie Wellens, has done a solid job thus far.

Scholes, 42, has yet to try his hand at football management but has held coaching roles at Manchester United whilst also becoming a pundit and owner of non-league club Salford City.

Wellens, who retired as a player last season, has stated that he would like to be given the job on a full-time basis after leading the club out of the relegation zone.

The club's board will now have to decide whether or not to give Wellens the job or go with the big-named former worldwide superstar.

Oldham are 19th in League One and next play Blackburn on Saturday.
