BioWare vet and Dragon Age director Mike Laidlaw is leaving the company

BioWare's Mike Laidlaw, the designer and creative director known for his work on Mass Effect, Jade Empire and the Dragon Age series, has announced that he's leaving after 14 years with the studio.

Laidlaw says that he's been lucky to work with so many talented and hardworking people, and that he looks forward to seeing where the studio takes the Dragon Age universe in the future. "After 14 years and a chance to work on Jade Empire, Mass Effect and all things Dragon Age it's time for me to move on", he wrote in a statement shared on Twitter.

After a long and creative career under the roof of Bioware, Mike Laidlaw has made a decision to retire from his job as a director/writer for the company and announced it a couple of hours ago through his personal account on Twitter.

He hasn't detailed the reason for his departure, nor what job he'll be moving on to next.

Marvel Studios planning an official timeline to the MCU
This isn't the first time that Marvel is going to release an official timeline, either. Still, while the original incarnation of the MCU may change, it's not going away.

GamesBeat has reached out to BioWare's parent company, Electronic Arts, for comment. In the above statement, Laidlaw says he plans to spend time "reconnecting with all the incredible games and worlds that [his] peers have created".

Laidlaw was nominated for a 2010 BAFTA Games Award for Best Story in Dragon Age: Origins along with Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk.

BioWare and Dragon Age lost another long-standing member last year when David Gaider, a writer there for 17 years, left and then joined Baldur's Gate enhancer Beamdog.
