Robbie Lawler set to take on Rafael dos Anjos Dec. 16

Former champions Robbie Lawler and Rafael dos Anjos will meet in the main event of UFC Fight Night on December 16 at Winnipeg's Bell MTS Place. Against dos Anjos at UFC on FOX 26, he'll look to string together a couple of wins to work his way back into title contention. The 35-year-old last appeared at UFC 214 in July, when he was awarded a three-round unanimous decision over Donald Cerrone at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.

Dos Anjos (27-9) is on a two-fight win streak, besting Neil Magny via submission and Tarec Saffiedine since moving up to welterweight after a run at lightweight that included a title-winning performance vs. Anthony Pettis.

With the show headlining on FOX, the victor would have a strong case for a title shot at welterweight champion Tyron Woodley, who is now out of action with a torn labrum. Now 2-0 at welterweight, Dos Anjos, like Lawler, stands out as one of the division's premier contenders.

Cirkunov, who fights out of Toronto by way of Riga, Latvia, will be looking to avenge a loss to Volkan Oezdemir, which happened on the same night Teixeira lost to Gustafsson.

Sanders received harsh feedback from Twitter users who said his headlining slot is "hurtful" and "wrong". Some suggested that women should boycott the convention and its organizers.

Chad Laprise (13-2) of Chatham, Ont., will face London-based Galore Bofando (5-2) in a welterweight fight.

Halifax's John Makdessi will fight Abel Trujillo while Montreal's Nordine Taleb will take on Sultan Aliev. Winnipeg hosted the UFC 161 pay-per-view event in 2013.

UFC on FOX 26 takes place December 16 at MTS Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
