1 lakh employees of MSRTC goes on indefinite strike

The state transport buses stayed off the roads, causing inconvenience to passengers.

Thousands of passengers are going to face hardship in traveling to their home town on the eve of Diwali as the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) employees have made a decision to go on a strike on the demand of salary hike.

The MSRTC staff have stopped plying ST buses from midnight yesterday demanding implementation of the 7th Pay Commission and an interim hike of 25 per cent till the pay panel's recommendations are implemented.

Not even a single bus has left from the Bus Depot in major cities like Mumbai, Pune, Ratnagiri, Solapur and Thane. The transport undertaking incurs a loss of Rs 450 crore per year.

According to the petitions, almost 65 lakh people travel by state transport buses on a daily basis. Of the 58,000 buses that run daily, only 681 trips were made in the entire day.
