Gerrie Nel launches bid to prosecute Dudu Zuma

Gerrie Nel, the lawyer who prosecuted Oscar Pistorius, will take the case on behalf of the rights group. Instead of going after Number One, he's set his sights on Number One's son, Duduzane Zuma.

"Once that certificate is obtained, we will have 90 days within which to start the prosecution", Kallie Kriel, AfriForum chief, said in statement.

Former NPA prosecutor, Nel who joined the union this year confirmed that papers have been filed to pursue a culpable homicide case against Duduzane.

Centurion - President Jacob Zuma son Duduzane Zuma will be the first person to be hauled before AfriForum's private prosecuting unit, the union announced on Tuesday.

The prosecution relates to a auto accident on 1 February 2014 on the M1 highway in Gauteng caused by Mr Zuma.

Phumzile Dube died when Duduzane Zuma's auto collided with the taxi in which she was travelling.

AfriForum will now be consulting witnesses and experts as it waits for the National Prosecuting Authority to issue the nolle prosequi certificate. Phumzile Dube, a young female passenger in another vehicle, was killed in the accident.

Nel said the victim Phumzile Dube was killed died in February 2014, after Zuma's Porsche collided with the taxi in which she was travelling. An inquest found that Duduzane was negligent but the NPA declined to prosecute.

Afriforum says it believes the deceased woman's family deserves justice, no matter who the perpetrator is. According to Nel, such a decision would also be a victory for AfriForum and the Dube family, as the whole idea behind their action was to ensure that justice is served.

AfriForum's Gerrie Nel announced that he intends pursuing a case of culpable homicide against Zuma for the 2014 death of a taxi commuter.
