Man accused of stabbing 2 young siblings to death

A 19-year-old Colorado Springs man who has been charged with two counts of murder in the deaths of his two siblings was arrested in March in Effingham, Ill., for setting his parents' SUV on fire in a field, authorities said Tuesday.

Officers responded to reports of violence at a home and also found one injured adult, who is expected to survive.

All three were rushed to the hospital but doctors couldn't save the children.

Police identified the suspect as Malik Vincent Murphy. It's not clear if he has a lawyer yet.

An arrest affidavit says the teenager bought a knife several months ago with the plan of killing his entire family and burying the bodies in the backyard.

Malik Murphy had been arrested in IL in March and accused of setting fire to his parents' sport utility vehicle. The father began to fight with Murphy until he was able to detain him in the garage until police arrived on scene.
