Man accused of stabbing 2 young siblings to death

A 19-year-old Colorado Springs man who has been charged with two counts of murder in the deaths of his two siblings was arrested in March in Effingham, Ill., for setting his parents' SUV on fire in a field, authorities said Tuesday.

Officers responded to reports of violence at a home and also found one injured adult, who is expected to survive.

All three were rushed to the hospital but doctors couldn't save the children.

Police identified the suspect as Malik Vincent Murphy. It's not clear if he has a lawyer yet.

An arrest affidavit says the teenager bought a knife several months ago with the plan of killing his entire family and burying the bodies in the backyard.

Malik Murphy had been arrested in IL in March and accused of setting fire to his parents' sport utility vehicle. The father began to fight with Murphy until he was able to detain him in the garage until police arrived on scene.

'Zombie Frap' may come to Starbucks in time for Halloween
Starbucks has not officially announced the drink just yet, but news of it has been popping up on social media since last week. Marketing materials posted on their blog also show that the pink-tinged whip cream topping the drink will resemble brains.

Kibler said authorities agreed to dismiss the case if the teen got treatment.

The suspect is the older brother of the two young victims, KKTV in Colorado Springs reported.

According to investigators, Murphy displayed signs of a mental illness, Fuesting said.

Another neighbor, Judy Barnes, told the newspaper that she gave the children candy when they played outside and they called her "neighbor grandma". Black said they called 911 while the attack was unfolding. "I saw them the day before yesterday".

"Jefferson Murphy told [police] that Malik Murphy had talked about doing this previously", the documents read.
