Google Launches Bug Bounty Program for Apps

The Google Play Security Reward Program will pay researchers who discover problems in popular Android apps found in the store.

Google did not reveal the funding for its program, but said it would start small.

You can only participate if you are able and willing to respond to the researchers complaint and fix the bug by working with the researcher as soon as possible.

We first heard about Instant Apps at Google's I/O developer event back in May 2016; the company began rolling out support for these programs this January, but few such apps have been spotted in the wild.

In a report of Sky News, a research by security company Check Point suggested that Google's automated system failed to detect 50 malware apps which were downloaded up to 4.2 million times before being removed. So far, the list is pretty short: Alibaba, Dropbox, Duolingo, Headspace, Line, Mail.Ru, Snapchat and Tinder. This does mean that the rewards will be handled on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Neymar sent off as PSG drop points against Marseille
While the visitors' emotions were of joy, Marseille goalkeeper Steve Mandanda could not hide his dismay at the late leveller. Neymar, who became the world's most expensive footballer last summer, had earlier equalized following Luiz Gustavo's opener.

The Android Security Rewards program was launched in 2015 as part of the long-standing Google Vulnerability Rewards Program, although it is mainly focused not on apps but improving the security of Nexus devices.

The company is collaborating with vulnerability coordination and bug bounty platform HackerOne. So, if multiple users find out about the same vulnerability, Google will reward the first person who discovered the issue. Such programs provide a way for hackers to make a living while helping to keep people's personal data safe.

Once the vulnerability has been resolved, the researcher requests a bonus bounty from the Google Play Security.

One of the largest bug bounties was offered by Microsoft.
