Cong observes black day on DeMo anniversary

Providing this information, the PCC chief spokesman Mathura Datt Joshi said that concern was expressed in the meeting at the apathy of the Central Government towards the problems being faced by the public due to the demonetisation and GST decisions.

The Congress party on Wednesday said they are paying tributes to those people who allegedly died in bank and ATM (automated teller machines) queues on the first anniversary of demonetisation.

Lashing out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government for the note ban, Surjewala questioned whether the country's banking sector was ready to tackle such a situation. "It was a revolutionary step to fight counterfeit currency in circulation, unearthing black money and hitting hard at the financial backbone of funding for terrorism and Naxalism (Maoism)", Naqvi said at a press conference here.

As part of the "Anti-Black Money Day" observation in the Imphal Valley, BJP state unit president and Rajya Sabha MP Kshetrimayum Bhabhananda Singh said demonetisation is an honest policy to bring about a structural change in the country to enhance its economy. Addressing the gathering, Bahinipati criticised the PM Modi for failing to achieve the desired results of demonetisation. The DCC chief also alleged that prior to demonetisation, the BJP had purchased land to set up its party offices across the country using huge amount of black money and demanded a judicial probe to establish the truth.

Yemen on brink of world's 'largest starvation in decades'
The Arab world's poorest country, Yemen is nearly totally dependent on imports for food, fuel and medicine. Some 17 million Yemenis are in desperate need of food, seven million of whom are at risk of starvation .

The Congress leader further said the BJP Government has failed to fulfil its promises made in the poll manifesto and not a single black money hoarder has been traced yet. "The note ban continues to affect their livelihood even today,"he said". "Over five million people have lost their jobs across the country due to demonetisation and the country's GDP has decreased", added the former CM.

Jakhar said the "wrong policies of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have manifested in demonetisation".

Members of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) also staged the demonstration in Mandya and condemned Mr. Modi and his government.
