Health Canada expands fire extinguisher recall involving 2.7 million devices

One death has been linked to problems with the extinguishers made by Kidde, according to a notice Thursday from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Last week, Kidde in conjunction with Health Canada announced a voluntary recall to replace certain Kidde fire extinguishers.

In 2014, extinguishers failed to function as they should for emergency personnel responding to a fiery vehicle wreck.

The government says the extinguishers can become clogged and fail to spray when needed.

AT&T Clashes With US Over Time Warner Asset Sales
The source said the companies were told that Time Warner would need to sell off Turner, the television division that includes CNN. When asked about the deal, the Stephens shared the status of negotiations with the government at a conference Wednesday morning.

The recall affects both plastic-handle and push-button Pindicator including 134, ABC and BC-rated models manufactured between January 1, 1973 and August 15, 2017.

The agency also warns the nozzle may come off with sufficient force to pose a hazard. There is enough force from the nozzle flying off that it can cause damage or injury.

Kidde says it has received a report of a death in the USA involving a auto fire and some 390 other reports of malfunctions involving extinguishers in the US that led to 16 injuries.

Affected consumers should immediately contact Kidde for a free replacement fire extinguisher.
