Giants lose several more players to injury in loss to 49ers

After next week's bye, the 49ers will play their third straight game at Levi's Stadium and host the Seattle Seahakws on November 26. On the other sideline, Jimmy Garoppolo is with the 49ers now, but with a depleted offensive line, the last thing anyone wants is for Garoppolo to get injured, so C.J. Beathard will get the nod. Beathard will return to the reserve role he held at the beginning of the season.

Additionally, wide receiver Sterling Shepard, who had arguably his best performance with the team, appeared to suffer a hamstring injury that caused him to come up lame on an Eli Manning fade. Fast-forward to Week 10 this season, and though people wouldn't be surprised that the 49ers would be 0-9, many would have thought they would at least have their first win. The 49ers did it on the strength of Beathard's big day.

Left tackle Joe Staley is back after fracturing his orbital bone in the same game. Staley immediately stabilized the offensive line and Beathard capitalized on the cleanest pocket he's had to work with since he became the starter on October 22. He's been sacked, hit repeatedly and committed crucial turnovers.

In addition to the usual grit and toughness, Beathard produced.

Seferovic should have settled it in the 85th minute but instead shot high and wide - and was substituted nearly immediately. Jakob Park on Sunday afternoon (Monday morning AEDT).

Beathard answered with a 47-yard touchdown pass to Celek. At halftime, Beathard was 13-of-16 for 198 yards with the two touchdowns for a 157.8 passr rating. Three snaps after forcing a Giants fumble, the 49ers went deep and took a 10-6 lead on Goodwin's 83-yard touchdown reception 7:59 before halftime.

The Giants came out looking bad and allowed a team that was 30th in teh league in scoring, put up a 30=spot on them en route to their first victory of the season.

In a game that featured two teams with one win between them entering Sunday, one could argue that the Niners' victory is counterproductive as it will only hurt their chances at the top draft pick.
