Air pollution: Arvind Kejriwal to meet Manohar Lal Khattar in Chandigarh

Kejriwal said Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar had called him and told him that the latter was in Delhi till tomorrow, but can not meet him in Delhi, citing "he (Khattar) was very busy". Would be grateful if u cud spare sometime to meet me.

In a letter to Kejriwal, released to media on Monday, Khattar said that a constructive mindset was required to deal with the issue of stubble burning by farmers and everyone had a role to play in this regard.

Last week, Kejriwal sought a meeting with his Haryana and Punjab counterparts to discuss ways to manage the worsening air pollution in Delhi and neighbouring states.

Gopal Rai said that a final call on the issue will be taken after the Supreme Court hearing on November 13. ML Khattar also launched a scathing attack, saying what had Kejriwal done for "stubble burning over 40000 hectares of land in Delhi".

Under this phase, broadband connectivity will be provided in remaining 1.5 lakh Gram Panchayats in the country. The government will also provide Rs 3,600 crore to telecom operators for rolling out wi-fi in villages.

"In fact, your reference to the helplessness of farmers in Punjab and Haryana in stubble burning betrays an inability to rise above short-term electoral interests", the Haryana chief minister wrote.

Kejriwal's invitation comes a day after reports claimed that though both the Delhi and Haryana CM said that they are willing to meet each other, the meet never happened. The air quality deteriorated on Monday after marginally improving over the weekend. Such collective action problems require everyone to do their bit....

Kejriwal then wrote on Twitter that he was trying to meet Khattar in Delhi, but the Haryana CM told him that he was busy. Khattar also claimed that satellite imagery shows a reduction in stubble burning in Haryana since 2014. "You may feel free to call me to fine tune a mutually convenient date, time and venue for the meeting".

A thick blanket of smog caused by the burning has engulfed parts of Punjab, Haryana and Delhi, severely affecting normal life and troubling people in breathing.
