Israel and the Egyptian military have launched a campaign to destroy the tunnels, preventing the people in Gaza from bringing most of their basic goods like construction materials, food, and fuel into the coastal enclave.

The PIJ threat was issued after Israel's Maj. Two fighters belonging to the Palestinian resistance group Hamas were also killed.

Israel has said it is holding the bodies of five militants retrieved from the tunnel and implied it would try to use them as bargaining chips to retrieve the remains of two Israeli soldiers believed held by Hamas.

Amid the ongoing implementation of a reconciliation agreement between Hamas and the Palestinian Authority, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that Hamas would be held responsible for any attack carried from Gaza.
