Metro Anambra Election: Bomb Scare Panic INEC Secretariat

The coalition said the residents of the state should shun the "vote and die" threat by members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), which is meant to coerce voters into boycotting Saturday's gubernatorial election.

"If you vote you will die".

Nkeiruka Nwode, Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Police Command, said the IPOB march has no effect, insisting that the state police command had concluded arrangements for effective policing of the state during the election. Come vote and die.

In addition, other security and safety agencies, which are members of Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) in the state are also deployed to complement the Police. One of the members who gave his name as Ogbonnaya said that the reason the people of Biafra should not vote was because the system was skewed in favour of the North, stressing that voting will change nothing.

Speaking on Tuesday at an election stakeholders meeting organised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Obiano said he wants his security details returned "immediately".

The group warned Anambra people that the same politicians who were urging them to go ahead and cast their votes were the same people that conspired with Aso Rock cabal to bring death to the southeast through Operation Python Dance II. No free and fair elections have ever been conducted in Nigeria's history, so Anambra State can not be an exception. "To tell them that the genuine power belong to the people and we are withholding it for good and sake of our freedom", Ogbonnaya reiterated.

"Anambra State gubernatorial election is scheduled to hold on the 18th of November, 2017".

"There are already a number of disgruntled citizens in Anambra State who believe that IPOB has singled their state as a guinea pig that will make them the only Igbo state without an elected governor in the South-east". As you can see, there will be no election.

"Security identification tag will be provided for all the security and safety agencies, INEC officials, election observers/monitors and others that have statutory duties to carry out in the election".

Also, Jimoh Moshood, the Force spokesperson, warned the IPOB members not to interfere with the election process in their own interest, adding that the police would deal with them "the way an outlawed group should be dealt with".

The statement also declared that Commissioners of Police and personnel in the states contiguous to Anambra State have been put on red-alert not to allow an influx of miscreants and thugs into Anambra State.

"We will want to appeal to all the contestants to play by the rules and also speak to their supporters on the need to have a peaceful election".

The report went further to disclose that it is likely that six LGAs may witness low voter turnout as a result of the IPOB call for election boycott, adding that these LGAs are the strongholds of IPOB and are likely to mobilise members and sympathizers to boycott the governorship election.
