Olympian Ibtihaj Muhammad is getting her own hijab-wearing Barbie

Like Graham before her, Muhammad made sure the doll represented her in body shape and in her makeup. And companies like Hello Hijab still have a place in the conversation while we all wait for Mattel to make Barbie hijabs a reality for their dolls.

As a Barbie "Shero", Muhammad joins the ranks of Gabby Douglas, Ava DuVernay, and Misty Copeland, among many other accomplished women, who have all been honored with Barbie dolls of their own. Now that Mattel has made a doll for girls like her, Muhammad knows it will make a difference: "I hope that little girls of color across the heartland will be inspired to embrace what makes them unique", she said of girls who will play with this Barbie. "Now, I have my own doll wearing a hijab that the next generation of girls can use to play out their own dreams".

For Muhammad, it was not only important for the doll to have her hijab, but also for it to share her likeness and have her body type.

The makers of Barbie unveiled their latest business venture with a hijab-wearing Barbie doll to honor the Muslim American woman who competed in the 2016 Olympics wearing a hijab.

Aly Raisman: Gymnastics Team Doctor Was a 'Master Manipulator'
The sleazy physician previously admitted to possession of child pornography and is now being sued by 140 women. In an appearance on Today to promote her book, Aly opened up about why she has made a decision to speak out.

There's a short wait until the Barbie wearing a hijab will become available in 2018.

Barbie announced at the Glamour's Women of the Year summit on Monday that Olympic fencer Ibtihaj Muhammad would be the next woman to be honored with a Barbie in her image for the doll's "Shero" line, a program that celebrates boundary-breaking women meant to inspire the next generation. Now, she's making history again by teaming up with Mattel to create a Barbie designed after her. According to Glamour, when she first got to see her Barbie she was so excited. She is also the driving force behind the Louella clothing line, which aims for fashion that combines vibrant looks with Muslims' needs for floor-length and long-sleeved dresses for modesty.

This ground-breaking Barbie is such a win for increased representation and inclusivity. "Barbie is every kind of woman now, and that's why it's so exciting to be a part of this journey with Barbie", she said to Muhammad.

Barbie and Mattel have been shifting their image to become more racially diverse via their You Can Be Anything campaign.
