Use antibiotics effectively to reduce drug-resistance

The International Poultry Council also questioned WHO's stance on antibiotics, noting that "the IPC is very concerned that the World Health Organization guidelines inappropriately tie the hands of producers and limit their options for using antimicrobials for prevention, control and treatment of diseases based on specific need".

It comes as healthcare professionals warn slow resistance to antibiotics is becoming one of the nation's biggest threats.

For years, FDA, USDA, and various industry stakeholders have sought to tackle public health concerns associated with the use of medically important antibiotics to promote growth or feed efficiency in food-producing animals.

Dr Katie Laird, Head of the IDRG and Senior Lecturer in Microbiology, said: "The issues surrounding antibiotic resistance is of paramount importance and the IDRGs overall aim is to conduct research that focuses on this issue and has an impact on people's lives".

Imperial staff and students will have an opportunity to hand over any unused antibiotics this week as part of an annual amnesty.

"Many young people appear to lack knowledge about antibiotics and their goal", he said.

Hitman TV show coming to Hulu; Being written by John Wick creator
The report from Deadline also noted that there are two new Hitman games in the works which is interesting, to say the least. Hitman has been a huge success, selling over 25 million copies of its game since it was released in 2000.

Councillor Paul Sweet, Wolverhampton council's cabinet member for public health and wellbeing, said: "Bacteria adapt and find ways to survive the effects of an antibiotic, and so they are losing their effectiveness at an ever increasing rate". But it's also about giving them some practical advice that will help them, or their child, feel better - getting good rest, ensuring adequate fluid intake, and advising on proper pain relief.

"We often forget that things we take for granted, like chemotherapy and surgery, would not be possible without antibiotics".

The collaborative effort between doctors, pharmacists, microbiologists, infection prevention specialists, nurses and other healthcare professionals plays a critical role in driving and influencing the implementation of the hospital antimicrobial resistance strategy.

"We are misusing antibiotics by using them when it is not needed (for the common cold or viral infection), not completing the prescribed dose and using them to promote growth and productivity in agriculture", Stegelmeier said.
