Amazon launches Echo, Alexa in Canada

Amazon launched its Alexa virtual assistant and smart device platform in Canada today. Now Google Home (which is what I have throughout my house) is going to get some competition.

Shoppers will now be able to use their voice to order their weekly shop from Morrisons.com by using the service, as well ask Alexa to add or remove items from their basket, suggest items based on previous shops, check the total of their order and check if their delivery is on time.

Amazon has slowly, but surely, begun bringing its popular Echo devices outside of the U.S., and into a few other countries. The Echo Plus is $169.99, down from $199.99 CAD, and the Echo Dot is $49.99, down from $69.99. Amazon said that it expects the devices to start shipping on December 5, while they will also be available in-store at Best Buy, Staples, The Source, TELUS, and a number of other retailers. Over 10,000 skills will be available for customers in Canada this year, including skills from Air Canada, TD Bank, TELUS, CBC, The Weather Network, Bank of Montreal, Manulife, Aviva, Yellow Pages, and more.
