Didier Drogba Announces Retirement from Football

Didier Drogba will call time on his playing career after the 2018 United Soccer League (USL) season to focus on other projects.

As well as being Phoenix's star player, the Ivorian is also an owner of the club, and it is his off-field ventures that the 39-year-old wants to concentrate on going forward.

According to the Daily Mirror, Drogba made 381 appearances for Chelsea across two spells, scoring 164 times in the process.

The 2012 Champions League victor scored 10 goals in 14 regular season games to help his franchise into the USL playoffs, where they lost to eventual championship runners-up Swope Park Rangers.

The first of those surprises will include a map of the vacant plot on the border, some new cards for the game, and other goodies. At last count, there were just shy of 80,000 chances left to donate, but they're going fast.

But despite a whiff of controversy surrounding the Chelsea owner, his record speaks for itself and this is something he reiterated to Drogba when the subject arose during their time together.

Drogba has been playing for Phoenix since the turn of the year, where he has scored 10 times in his 14 appearances. At some point, we must stop, "said the former captain of Elephants on RMC".

Apart from his trophy-laden spell at Chelsea, Drogba also has Turkish Super Lig, Super Cup and Turkish Cup honours to his name with Galatasaray.

He added: "It's good to play, but at 39, it holds me back a bit".
