Mom's iPhone X unlocked via FaceID by son

Lots of people look like their parents. And now, a mother and her 10-year-old son show how Face ID can be fooled, failing to secure the experience between family members.

The family posted a video of the facial-recognition feat Tuesday on YouTube. But in a shocker, a 10-year-old accidentally unlocked his mother's iPhone using his face which was not even registered in the phone. Face ID allows iPhone X users to unlock their phone just by looking at it. But it turns out that your kids can unlock it too.

Reviews of the phone widely noted issues with the feature, which uses infrared light to map users' faces and unlock the phone when the correct owner is looking at it. If the failed scan passed a certain threshold of resemblance, and the passcode is inputted correctly thereafter, Face ID takes another scan to correct its model in the attempt to be more accurate in the future.

Later on, the mother reregistered her face under different lighting, her son was no longer able to unlock her phone.

Apple needs to address this situation because at the introduction, it says Face ID is more powerful than the Touch ID but the reverse might be the case!

Thus, he added, separate references cannot be filed against him, requesting the court to club together all three references. The second witness Federal Board of Revenue's (FBR) Jahangir Ahmad also appeared before the Court to record his statements.

Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The probability of a false match is different for twins and siblings that look like you as well as among children under the age of 13, because their distinct facial features may not have fully developed.

According to Macrumors, the younger Malik was consistently able to unlock his mother's iPhone X without any failure.

Malik writes in the description of the video that they accidentally discovered the trick when the son was denied access to the newly purchased iPhone X and he glanced over it, "acting exactly as a kid would do". Meanwhile, there's also some "special processing done on the cheeks and around the face" where there are large areas of skin, and the nose is created from silicone.
