Panthers rookie Curtis Samuel out for remainder of season

Samuel was injured during Monday's 45-21 victory over the Miami Dolphins when his foot was rolled on by Miami safety Reshad Jones in the third quarter. Samuel was on crutches in the locker room, with his left leg heavily wrapped. But when wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin was traded to the Buffalo Bills two weeks ago, Samuel assumed a starting role alongside Devin Funchess.

Against the Dolphins, Samuel was doing just that as he had five receptions and 45 receiving yards in the first half. In terms of position flexibility, McCaffrey might be closest to Samuel, who also played running back at Ohio State. Among them, Russell Shepard is the best bet for regular targets, but Kaelin Clay and Brenton Bersin can expect an uptick in offensive usage.

Panthers second-year wide receiver Damiere Byrd is eligible to return from injured reserve in Week 13 versus the New Orleans Saints. "Is there anybody as fast as him?"

USA investor nears record 400-jet Airbus order
In addition, a separate deal for 175 jets from flyDubai, possibly to be split between Airbus and Boeing is also on the cards. The order, believed to be the biggest ever for Airbus, will more than double the value of the airline's sales for the year.

Now, with Samuel out for the season, the Panthers have to turn to others to inject that much-needed speed.

"It's probably going to be by committee", Shula added.

"One of the best things that happened after Curtis [went out] was we didn't feel we missed a beat, " Shula said.
