Charles Manson hospitalized in Bakersfield; severity of illness unclear

Charles Manson is being treated in a Bakersfield, California hospital, according to TMZ.

Manson was rushed to a Bakersfield hospital three days ago for emergency medical treatment - where he has remained.

A KGET viewer said they saw the 83-year-old Manson at Mercy Hospital in Downtown Bakersfield.

The source also added, "it's just a matter of time", TMZ said.

At that time, he was hospitalized for severe intestinal bleeding and needed surgery to fix a lesion, but was deemed too weak by doctors and sent back to prison.

The Manson Family members brutally butchered movie director Roman Polanski's pregnant wife Sharon Tate along with celebrity hairstylist Jay Sebring, coffee heiress Abigail Folger, writer Wojciech Frykowski, and visiting teen Steven Parent.

Manson, noted since the 1960s for a crudely carved swastika on his forehead, has been in the annals of American criminal lore since he dispatched a legion of cult followers to carry out brutal attacks in and around Los Angeles. In all, he and his followers killed nine people at four locations in July and August 1969.

Manson's death sentence was commuted to life after California ruled the death penalty unconstitutional in 1972.

His next scheduled parole hearing is in 2027, when he would be 92 years old.

The cult leader continued his life of crime behind bars after being locked up, with more than 100 infractions during his time in prison, for charges including assault, making voodoo dolls and hiding a hot air balloon order catalog in his cell.
