Arsenal confirm appointment of Sven Mislintat as club's new head of recruitment

Bayern had looked to bring in Mislintat over the summer, but club president Uli Hoeness said the matter was closed as Dortmund were not prepared to lose him.

Kagawa, for example, was signed for just £300k from Cerezo Osaka in 2010, but was sold for £12.5m to Manchester United just two years later.

In recent years, he has helped construct one of the best young squads in Europe with purchases such as Ousmane Dembele, now at Barcelona, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Raphael Guerreiro.

Mislintat, who has worked at Borussia Dortmund since 2009, replaces Steve Rowley who is stepping down from his role after 25 years with the club.

Also, as an interesting side note, Mislintat's arrival virtually guarantees that Thomas Tuchel, Dortmund's former manager, will not be Wenger's eventual replacement, despite persistent rumors in the British press.

Martinez's partner radioed that the pair needed assistance. "I just wish him the best, that he rest in peace, I love him". Crawford said he got the news of his death while on social media. "He was such a good guy, it's so unfortunate".

Mislintat is a scout, or a super-scout according to Bild, and won't be arriving at Arsenal for free. "His contract was extended until 2021 only a few months ago for a reason".

However, speculation over any unrest regarding Rowley's departure is likely to be usurped by the buzz around Mislintat's appointment, and Wenger hopes he can revolutionise their approach to recruitment.

Arsene Wenger told the clubs website: "We are delighted that Sven is joining us". This includes the use of data analysis - an approach Arsenal have utilised in their own recruitment process using U.S. based analytics company StatDNA.

The Gunners had been known to be targeting the highly-regarded talent-spotter known as "Diamond Eye" amid suggestions that current incumbent Steve Rowley was on the brink of ending his 35-year tenure in north London as part of a continuing backroom overhaul being instigated by chief executive Ivan Gazidis.
