Iraq militia threatens USA forces after Trump's Jerusalem move

The Iraqi Foreign Ministry on Thursday sent a diplomatic note to Washington to protest U.S. President Donald Trump's decision one day earlier to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

"U.S. government facilities worldwide remain in a heightened state of alert", the warning read.

On Thursday, the Iraqi government demanded the U.S. reverse its decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

The US has thousands of troops stationed in Iraq to help in the fight against IS.

The State Department previously issued a travel warning for Israel on April 11, 2017. "These facilities may temporarily close or periodically suspend public services to assess their security posture".

In addition, the USA embassy in London posted an urgent "security message" on its verified Twitter account, warning Americans in Great Britain "of the need for caution and personal awareness" after the president's controversial declaration.

The statement by the State Department reads, 'As part of the Department of State's continuous efforts to provide USA citizens traveling overseas with information about safety and security events, we are updating the Worldwide Caution with information on the continuing threat of terrorist actions, political violence, and criminal activity against USA citizens and interests overseas.
