Myanmar may be guilty of Rohingya genocide

United Nations member states said yesterday that Myanmar was likely committing "crimes against humanity" against its Rohingya minority, while the UN rights chief voiced alarm over possible "elements of genocide".

Genocide is defined by the United Nations as "acts committed with the intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnic, racial or religious group". Such a designation is rare under worldwide law, but has been used in contexts including Bosnia, Sudan and an Islamic State campaign against the Yazidi communities in Iraq and Syria.

Zeid Ra'ad al-Hussein also urged the Human Rights Council to consider asking the U.N. General Assembly to authorize another U.N. investigation into abuses and violence against the Rohingya since August that has driven 626,000 into neighboring Bangladesh.

Myanmar's ambassador on the council denied the claims and said that his government was working with Bangladesh to help relocate those who had lost their homes.

Zeid, who has described the campaign in the past as a "textbook case of ethnic cleansing", was addressing a special session of the UN Human Rights Council called by Bangladesh.

Not only this, he also told Arshi to change her hairstyle now, may be tie her hair in a pony which will give her an all new look. Shot yesterday, the task required housemates to remain still in their position, while the family members entered the house.

Noting the progress made bilaterally between Bangladesh and Myanmar for repatriation of Rohingya refugees, Farukh Amil observed that this ongoing violence had forced hundreds of thousands of innocent Rohingya women, men and children to flee into neighbouring states for refuge.

Bangladeshi authorities have approved a plan to resettle about 100 thousand of Rohingya refugees on a desert flood-prone island Tanger Spell in the Bay of Bengal.

While conditions for the Rohingya are awful, IOM spokesman Joel Millman says this huge refugee influx into Cox's Bazar is having a severe impact on the impoverished host communities in the region.
