Rolls-Royce suffers fresh wave of troubles with Dreamliner engines

Singapore Airlines will operate a mixture of Airbus A380s and Boeing 777-300ERs on the service, while Air New Zealand will use a newly configured 787-9 aircraft.

Air New Zealand will cancel six global flights and retime others between 7 and 10 December to accommodate urgent maintenance on the Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engines that power its Boeing 787-9 fleet.

"Rolls-Royce does not have any replacement engines available while this maintenance work is undertaken which means some schedule changes are unavoidable", Air NZ adds.

Flight NZ30 left Auckland for Buenos Aires at 8.21pm, but returned an hour and a half later as a precaution due to a "possible engineering issue", according to an airline spokesperson.

The investigation into that incident recommended that Rolls-Royce review the design of the intermediate pressure turbines.
