Allison Janney puts her spin on ice-skating scandal in 'I, Tonya'

After world-premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival in September, I, Tonya quickly garnered rave reviews from critics and significant Oscar buzz from awards pundits, namely for the performances of Robbie and Janney. But, it was last night's Los Angeles premiere that brought her biggest style statement yet.

Plot: Tonya Harding (Margot Robbie) is a hugely talented figure skater that is rejected by the uppity U.S. Figure Skating team because of her working class origins.

While numerous nominations are the least that Robbie can expect, Allison Janney, as Tonya's charismatically offensive mother, is so rude, in your face, and vast that she is immediately the front-runner for the Best Supporting Actress gong.

Harding gave Janney her seal of approval for her portrayal of LaVona Golden, the skater's mother.

The biopic "I, Tonya" has the infamous Olympian Tonya Harding back in the spotlight, but it sounds like she doesn't hate it. "I'm totally star struck right now".

Trump also said the United States would move its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, though he set no timetable for that. At around 6:30 pm sirens sounded in the Shaar Hanegev Regional Council in the northwestern Negev.

The culprits, fellow USA skater Tonya Harding's ex-husband Jeff Gillooly and bodyguard Shawn Eckhardt, were soon caught. Harding went on to win the USA championship, but finished eighth at the Olympics in Lillehammer, while Kerrigan recovered from a bruised knee to win the silver medal behind Oksana Baiul.

Janney pretty almost steals the show as Tonya's foul-mouthed, chain-smoking mother, who constantly gripes about how she's squandering her limited resources on skating lessons and coaching for a girl, she's told, who "stands out because she looks like she chops wood every morning".

Gillooly, Stant and Eckhardt all served prison time for the attack, while Harding was given three years probation.

It starts off at breakneck speed and doesn't look back, as the film and its characters bulldoze their way through Tonya's ascension to the top of the USA figure skating team in short zippy, amusing scenes that are backed by a catchy soundtrack.
