Now St-Pierre is the champion at middleweight, with a young and dynamic striker in Robert Whittaker waiting in the shadows to unify his interim title with the Canadian when the opportunity presents itself.

Luke Rockhold returned to the octagon in September after having not fought since he lost the title to Michael Bisping at UFC 199 in June of 2016. Whittaker would also be entering the fight on an eight bout winning streak and he hasn't suffered a defeat in nearly four years.
