Hamilton police arrest suspect in fatal shooting of Good Samaritan

19-year-old Yosif Al-Hasnawi, who was a first-year medical science student at Brock University, was shot on December 2 after attempting to intervene as two young men accosted a senior citizen in downtown Hamilton. GoFundMe has disabled the account and money is expected to be returned to those who donated, Doerr said.

The GoFundMe page does not have a description attached to it, though a number of donors have left condolences to Al-Hasnawi's family.

"We can confirm that GoFundMe suspended the campaign and that we are looking into this", GoFundMe communications manager Rachel Hollis said in an emailed statement.

The Brock university student was shot about 9 p.m. near the Al-Moustafa Islamic Centre, where he had been taking part in a religious celebration.

Dale Burningsky King, 19, was arrested at 4:30 p.m.in Hargersville, Ont., Hamilton police said on Thursday.

Al-Hasnawi, 19, was gunned down while trying to assist an older man who was allegedly being harassed on Saturday night.

The university is also collecting donations to establish the Yosif Al-Hasnawi Memorial Fund, which will be used to establish a scholarship in his name.

Police had been searching for King, who faces a second-degree murder charge for several days. Police believed they were closing in on King at that time.

King has been at large since Monday, when police obtained an arrest warrant for the Hamilton man.

Dale Burningsky King was considered armed and unsafe and had changed his appearance by cutting his hair short.

On Monday, James Matheson, a 20-year old, was arrested and charged with accessory.
