Los Angeles Fire Department crews are working both the Creek Fire, which Terrazas said may have burned 14,000 acres above Sylmar, and, on the other end of the city, the Skirball Fire, which erupted in Bel-Air before dawn Thursday. As of 9:30 a.m., off-ramps along the northbound 405 Freeway are closed at the 10 Freeway to Mulholland Drive, and southbound 405 off-ramps are closed from Mulholland to Sunset Boulevard, a CHP spokesman said.

It is not clear if the outages may affect Long Beach or other areas.

That blaze destroyed about 500 homes and led to various policy changes, including a prohibition on wood-shingle roofs and the strict requirement to remove brush from around properties.
