Modi inaugurates Ambedkar International Centre in Delhi, recalls Baba Saheb's contribution

"Attempts to erase Baba Saheb Ambedkar's role failed, he has been more influential in the minds of people, much more than the family for which all this was done", he said.

Inaugurating the Ambedkar International Centre here a day after the nation observed his December 6 death anniversary, Modi said the government had realized Baba Saheb's dream of an inclusive India that gives equal opportunities to every citizen irrespective of caste, creed and faith. The Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, Shri Thaawar Chand Gehlot, the Ministers of State for Social Justice & Empowerment, Shri Vijay Sampla & Shri Krishan Pal and the Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs and Statistics & Programme Implementation, Shri Vijay Goel are also seen. "Then nothing happened for 23 years... when our government came we not only laid its foundation in April 2015 but are also dedicating it to the nation today", he said.

Prime Minister Modi's statement comes after Congress Vice-president Rahul Gandhi earlier said his family is a devotee of Lord Shiva, but does not believe in using it for political gain. He said the country is indebted to Baba Saheb, for his contributions to nation-building.

That is why, he added, that important places related to Dr. Ambedkar's life have been developed as centres of pilgrimage. These sites in Delhi, Mumbai, Nagpur, Mhow and London were like a homage from the present generation, he said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi continued his campaign in Gujarat with just 3 days to go before the first phase of polling on 9th of December.
