Overwatch Winter Wonderland event is back with an exciting game mode

Events like Winter Wonderland are important to a game like this because they keep players engaged and may convince some players to spend money on microtransactions.

Certain Overwatch maps will be redone to suit the season.

Starting on December 12, Overwatch players can revel in some fun-filled, and snowy activities when the Winter Wonderland event returns. "I was absolutely blown away when I saw the work that they had done and we really hope that you enjoy that".

The latter features five Mei players trying to subdue a rather formidable Winston on the Nepal map. There'll be new and returning holiday themed character skins, for instance, with Overwatch director Jeff Kaplan teasing new Legendary skins for "two of our favourite junkers" (Junkrat and Roadhog, surely) in Blizzard's announcement video.

The most interesting thing about Winter Wonderland 2017, however, it entirely new.

In addition to this Mei's Yeti Hunt.

You'll get a good long look at the newly winter-ised Black Forest during the return of Mei's Snowball Offensive brawl. The new event will be a boss fight in which a team of six Mei's will be pit against one single Winston, who acts as the stand-in Yeti for the holiday event.

The Winston they're hunting will be player-controlled as well, and he or she will have to avoid the group of Meis until they can collect enough meat and super-charge their abilities.

"I know a lot of you are thinking it sounds kind of silly and kind of ridiculous", said Kaplan of Mei's Yeti Hunt. "But the point of some of these seasonal brawls are just to be fun to be fun and light and refreshing for a short period of time". Just like past year, Overwatch is hosting another Winter Wonderland event.
