YouTube to launch a new Spotify rival, codenamed 'Remix', in 2018

YouTube has so far not been able to create a music streaming service to match that of Spotify and Apple Music, with services such as Google Play Music, YouTube Music Key, Music Key and the music video-focused YouTube Red, not hitting the mark.

YouTube has plans to release a new paid music service next spring, Bloomberg reports citing anonymous sources familiar with the matter. Talks with Sony and Universal, as well as Merlin-which represents hundreds of independent record labels-are apparently underway.

According to Bloomberg, this new service would appease record executives who have been very critical when it comes to streaming services in general. The service is also attached to Google's Play Music, which allows users access to either service, at no extra charge.

Paid services from Spotify and Apple Music have spurred a recovery in the music business, which is growing again after nearly two decades of decline.

Behr Paint suggests King's Court as a paint color that corresponds to Ultra Violet, Pantone's 2018 Color of the Year. More than just a color, Pantone's Color of the Year seems to be making a cultural statement.

What do you think of the idea of a YouTube music streaming service? That morphed into YouTube Red in 2016, letting users watch any video without advertising. YouTube has reached out to artists to seek their help in promoting the new service, one of the people said.

While the music streaming service is expected to arrive in March, YouTube is still grinding out the details of its deals, so it could face delays that push out that launch date.

YouTube hired former Warner Music executive Lyor Cohen previous year to help oversee its music operations and serve as a liaison to the record business.
