Kenya Airways starts process of direct flights to NY

Kenya Airways will launch nonstop daily service between Nairobi and New York JFK on October 28.

KQ chief executive Sebastian Mikosz, however, said both KQ and JKIA had received the critical approvals and added that the remaining requirements would be met as the airline sets up the route.

Kenya Airways becomes the first airline in the region to offer direct flights to the United States.

He said: "Winning these awards would not have been possible without the passion and dedication of the Kenya Airways team and the strong support from our guests".

Kenya Airways will operate two Boeing 787 Dreamliners on the route with daily flights. We are honored to contribute to the economic growth of Kenya and East Africa. This is expected to significantly reduce flight time between these two cities from more than 22 hours to 15 hours. The flight will fly overnight in the westbound direction- unusual for transatlantic flights-departing Nairobi at 11:25 p.m. before arriving at JFK at 6:25 a.m. the following day.

A return flight will then leave NY at 12.25 pm the same day and touch the ground in Nairobi at 10.55 am the following day.

The timing increases speculation that she could be a participant in the first-ever women's Royal Rumble match in Philadelphia. However, Levesque denied that a contract is imminent. "We have nothing to announce at this time", Levesque said.

With over 40 American multinationals located in Nairobi and many more across Africa, daily flights will help to spur business travel and improve trade between America and Africa.

Tickets for the flight can be purchased on the national carrier's website and through agents.

Kenya Airways Chairman Michael Joseph said that the flights will symbolize the comeback for the airline that has been making losses for the past few years. He said the U.S.is already Kenya's top source market with over 100,000 arrivals per year, and that number is expected to increase.

The US route completes an essential piece on KQ network which flies to various Africa, Europe, Middle-East, Indian sub-continent and Asia destinations "It fits within our strategy to attract corporate and high-end tourism traffic from the world to Kenya and Africa".

It continues to modernize its fleet with its 32 aircrafts being some of the youngest in Africa.
