Manchester United confident of winning race to sign Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal

Manchester United have emerged as surprise candidates to sign Sanchez from Arsenal, despite the Chile worldwide being linked with a move to Premier League leaders Manchester City throughout the season.

Manchester City are unwilling to pay more than £20m for the player whose deal at Arsenal expires in the summer, while title rivals Manchester United also want to sign the Chile worldwide.

When asked at a press conference if United were interested in signing the 29-year-old Chilean global, Wenger said "nothing is really concrete at the moment".

Alexis Sanchez will earn up to £60,000-a-week more if he opts for Manchester United over rivals City, claims the Sun .

"You might think his behaviour this season has been petulant, selfish, arrogant; but to me that suggests he's a frustrated victor who is desperate for trophies", Parker said.

With less than six months remaining on his current Arsenal deal, Alexis Sanchez looks to be heading toward the exit at The Emirates.

"So let's say in the summer we have three targets - a defender, a midfielder and an attacking player - if, in the winter, you do one of the three, then in the summer you are going to do three minus one".

It seems all but set in stone that Sanchez will only be an Arsenal player for a few more months.

Wenger revealed that the financial side of the deal remains as important as the player's desire to win trophies and confirmed that Arsenal are keen to retain Ozil and Jack Wilshere, who is also out of contract in the summer.

Press Association Sport contacted both United and Arsenal with the Manchester club saying they were not aware of any bid for Sanchez while the Gunners declined to comment.

However, Arsenal are reluctant to sell without replacing him and their first choice is Bordeaux's 20-year-old Brazilian forward Malcom, with whom Wenger has reportedly already made contact.
