Mets Sign Adrian Gonzalez

Mets Sign Adrian Gonzalez

In their effort to add depth, experience and insurance, the Mets have reached an agreement to sign veteran first baseman Adrian Gonzalez, pending a physical, an industry source said Saturday night.

Atlanta remains on the hook for virtually all of Gonzalez's guaranteed $21.5 million salary in 2018, with the Mets needing to pay only the minimum salary of $545,000.

The Mets won't need to break the bank for Gonzalez.

Gonzalez will be a free agent after the upcoming season. The slow-developing free agent market is starting to work in their favor as they signed outfielder Jay Bruce to a three-year, $39 million deal on Wednesday.

Postmates is an on-demand delivery service that carries packages between any two locations users choose. But the technology would add a new burden for pedestrians and cyclists.

Gonzalez missed most of last season due to a herniated back disk. Gonzalez, a five-time All-Star and four-time Gold Glove victor, saw his streak of 11 consecutive seasons with at least 150 games played snapped after being limited to just 71 games with the Dodgers last season because of injury. When he returned from his injury, NL Rookie of the Year Cody Bellinger had taken over at first base. He was not part of the team's seven-game World Series run. In those 71 games he batted.242 with three home runs and 30 RBIs.

This signing would have been exciting, if it was 2010, but unfortunately in this day and age, Gonzalez is a player that frankly shouldn't have even been looked at by this team.

He is a five-time All-Star and a four-time Gold Glove victor. Duda was traded to the Tampa Bay Rays during the season, and Smith, 22, struggled offensively, batting just.198.
