Speeding Car Plows onto Brazil's Copacabana Beach, Kills Baby

A baby has died and at least 15 people have been injured after a vehicle ploughed into a crowd at Rio's Copacabana beach.

Thousands gathered on the beach as eyewitnesses said they saw the auto, which wasn't going at high speed, lose control and invade the boardwalk. Pedestrians were knocked down.

Initial reports claim an eight-month-old baby has been killed and at least 15 people injured.

Brazil's Globo TV reported that the driver of the vehicle was detained by police. The others were taken to the Souza Aguiar Hospital. Medicine for epilepsy was found in the vehicle. The man has now been taken to undergo a medical examination, Colonel Angelotti said.

Trump says Russian Federation is helping North Korea skirt sanctions

Witnesses said on the Globo News network that the racing auto shot over a bicycle path and across the sidewalk, hitting people and crashing through tables and chairs, before coming to a stop on the sand of the beach.

When the auto came to a halt, pedestrians swarmed the vehicle in an apparent attempt to lynch the driver. He did not know if the driver's epileptic fit had been confirmed. Two years ago, Anquim was allegedly involved in another accident, when he was riding a motorcycle and crashed into the back of a van.

Witnesses claim the auto was not driving at high speed as traffic in the area was intense.
