US Navy slams Russian warplane's 'unsafe' intercept

On Monday evening, the U.S. State Department issued a statement, noting the incident with the "highest level of concern".

The American aircraft was flying in accordance with global law and "did not provoke the Russian activity", the US Navy said. The intercept lasted two hours and 40 minutes.

"These videos show the Russian Su-27 intercepting the EP-3 from a very close position, at the same altitude, and with an estimated wingtip-to-wingtip horizontal separation as little as five feet at times", U.S. Navy Capt. Bill Ellis, commander of Task Force 67, said in a press release.

Russia's RIA news agency, which first reported the encounter, quoted the Russian defense ministry as saying its fighter jet's path was in "accordance with the global rules for the use of airspace". The incident took place in global airspace over the Black Sea, where both aircraft are permitted.

"It added the warplane was scrambled to investigate "an unidentified air target approaching the Russian airspace borders" over the Black Sea".

Yusuf insisted that if the game drags into shoot out, his wards are ready to surmount the hurdle and make Nigerians proud. The Falcons of Sudan earned a showdown against Nigeria, when they defeated Zambia 1 - 0 in their quarterfinal fixture.

The Navy released one clip of the encounter Tuesday, showing the Flanker cut across the EP-3's flight path. Russian military leaders are known for a lot of things.

"After the surveillance plane of the U.S. Navy had changed its course to move away from the border, the Su-27 returned to its base", the statement further added. The Pentagon has said most interactions between Russian and American warplanes go smoothly, including in a case a year ago in which a Russian jet came within 20 feet of a Navy P-8 surveillance plane. The aircraft was identified as a US Navy ЕР-3Е Aries II spy plane. "Unsafe actions‎ increase the risk of miscalculation and midair collisions".

Nubert accused Russian Federation of violating the 1972 Agreement for the Prevention of Incidents On and Over the High Seas (INCSEA), adding that the USA craft operated within worldwide law.

"The crew of the fighter jet reported the identification of the American reconnaissance aircraft and accompanied it, preventing it from violating Russian airspace, observing all necessary security measures".
