Super Mario Odyssey Producer Ends Debate Over Toad's Terrifying Head

Nintendo just posted a video interview with Yoshiaki Koizumi, the game's producer, in which he addresses a number of fan questions ranging from Mario's lack of a belly button to his own personal high score in Volleyball.

Frankly, the bigger news and indication that the Mario series may be slipping into the body-horror genre comes in question two: Toad, a kind of servant to Princess Peach, isn't wearing a hat.

If you're wondering, you can get the shirtless Mario outfit in Odyssey at the clothing store in the Cascade Kingdom for 1,000 coins.

These are heady times for Nintendo fans.

Veteran Stage and Screen Actor John Mahoney Dies at 77
Over the course of his career he won many awards for his work on the stage, including a Tony Award for Best Featured Actor. The casting director of Frasier , Jeff Greenberg, tweeted: "I've not known a kinder man nor more brilliant actor".

Of course, the first question centers around one of the earliest Super Mario Odyssey memes, because it couldn't be any other way. Frankly, we're baffled as to why people were even questioning this, but there we go. Koizumi seemed surprised by the question, as he "never really expect [it] to be a topic among fans".

For nearly 30 years, fans of the Super Mario Bros. series have waged verbal battles over the true nature of Mario's diminutive, possibly mushroom-headed pal, Toad.

We'll have to wait and see if this means his belly button will make an appearance in a future Mario game.

The Q&A video also provides answers to some other critical questions. Talk video posted to the company's official YouTube channel. "Once I heard that people were talking so much about Mario's belly button, it made me start to think about whether we should revisit the topic on the design side", he says.
