Rays trade RHP Odorizzi to Twins for prospect

The Tampa Bay Rays have sent starting pitcher Jake Odorizzi to the Minnesota Twins in exchange for minor-league shortstop Jermaine Palacios, the team said in a statement.

Phil Hughes is also in the mix, recovering from a second thoracic outlet surgery on his ribs in as many years, but the Twins were concerned enough about their lack of proven candidates to make the trade for Odorizzi.

It's also not surprising that the Twins are the ones that landed Odorizzi Minnesota has been in search of starting pitching help all offseason, and Odorizzi is a ideal fit. He pitched a career-best 187 2/3 innings over 33 starts in 2016, posting a 3.69 ERA.
