"Except a bunch of targets", he says in the video. "I'm a firm believer in the Second Amendment, and I even have it tattooed on my arm".

"Quite frankly, any legal gun owner is capable of snapping and committing a horrific crime, even without mental illness", Pappalardo said in his video.

He said he had to do something after last week's deadly shooting at a high school in Parkland, Florida.

He also delivered a riposte to the NRA and other gun ownership advocates who say that legal gun owners shouldn't be penalised for the acts of criminals.

The school shooting has renewed heated debate on whether the United States have should stricter gun regulations.

'Look at the pictures of those victims. "I don't think so - so I'm going to make sure that will never happen with my weapon". "Is that right more important?". I just don't think so.

Pappalardo then gets up and walks to a nearby buzzsaw, which he uses to cut the gun in half.

He acknowledged that there are many factors that can be blamed for school shootings but ultimately, he said it comes down to the weapon he was holding in his lap.

Hollywood star Julianne Moore praised Mr Pappalardo's video, tweeting: Please watch this eloquent gun owner explain why he destroyed his gun.
