Slumdog Millionaire director Danny Boyle may helm the next James Bond film

James Bond 25 will be released in November 2019.

The next big screen outing for James Bond, more popularly referred to as Bond 25 to commemorate the twenty-fifth installment produced by EON Productions in the long-running franchise, may have finally found its wheels in the form of director Danny Boyle.

Entertainment trade daily Variety, which broke the story, reports that Oscar victor Boyle is "high on their list" but "no formal offer has yet been made" by Bond producers Eon Productions and studio MGM. Boyle, who won the 2009 Best Director Oscar for his India-set Slumdog Millionaire, also has critically-acclaimed titles such as Trainspotting and 127 Hours to his credit. He last helmed T2, a sequel to his highly acclaimed 1996 black comedy Trainspotting.

One story takes place before Solo , one takes place after Solo and a third takes place after Return of the Jedi . Solo: A Star Wars Story is scheduled to make its lightspeed arrival at theaters on May 25.

Last week, it was confirmed that the legendary Dark Knight trilogy and Dunkirk director Christopher Nolan won't be taking on the feat and now, according to Variety, there's another director who is high on MGM studio's list to helm it. He apparently has a "keen interest in the project and has always wanted to direct a Bond film", however, so the Working Title film could always be bumped back for 007. The report also stated that Yann Demange, director of White Boy Rick, is also in the race to helm the project. While he is now developing an unnamed new project, that could reportedly be put aside if Bond came calling.

Nevertheless Nolan would love to direct Bond one day - perhaps the reboot after Craig retires?

Whether Boyle's style of directing can transfer to Bond remains to be seen: he's not exactly known for action - though he has some on his CV in Sunshine - but he does tell human stories well, and that might be a good approach for Craig's farewell.
