With this President Bhandari is the first President of federal Nepal.
Bhandari was re-elected for a second term through a Parliament vote on Tuesday.

CPN's 65 lawmakers in the parliament and 108 lawmakers in provincial assemblies, the CPN had 10,319 votes.

She was elected twice in parliamentary elections in 1994 and 1999 and also served as the defence minister.
As a teenager, she joined a student wing of an underground communist party and married its charismatic leader Madan Bhandari, who died in a jeep crash in 1993.
